Imaging Informatics

The Section of Imaging Informatics optimizes and works with IT to implement computer systems and workflows that permit radiology data to be acquired, analyzed, and reported. Every part of the pathway from patient scheduling, scanning, storing, retrieving and analyzing images, issuing a report, and sharing the images with other institutions can be included in our purview. We work with all other sections in radiology and clinicians from across the institution. Recent projects include implementation of voice recognition, structured reporting, and 3D visualization/advanced image processing. We perform these functions for both Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Health System.


Our mission is to improve patient care through efficient handling of Radiology data.

We hold at least one week of dedicated informatics lectures and a number of workshops throughout the year to familiarize residents with our software tools.

One resident from each incoming class can apply to be the informatics resident. The informatics resident has dedicated time to spend on informatics projects and complete a research project in one of the disciplines of imaging informatics. At the end of the four years, the resident receives an additional listing on their certificate noting the experience in informatics.
