A Message from the Chairman

Robert M. Quencer, M.D.
Chairman, Department of Radiology
The Robert Shapiro M.D.
Professor of Radiology

The Department of Radiology offers full range of state of the art diagnostic and interventional procedures. These include multidetector computerized tomography (CT), high field strength magnetic resonance imaging (MR), positron-emission tomography (PET) imaging, endovascular therapeutic procedures for body and central nervous system disorders, and image guided minimally invasive surgery, in addition to a wide range of routine imaging such as nuclear medicine (diagnosis and therapy) plain radiography, mammography, non-invasive vascular imaging, and fluoroscopy.

With specialization in organ system imaging and therapy, the department is able to deliver radiology services in neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, body imaging, musculoskeletal imaging, nuclear medicine, emergency and trauma radiology, thoracic and cardiac imaging, breast imaging, and vascular imaging and therapy. This division into subspecialty areas has allowed the department to have expert physicians on faculty, who are nationally recognized for their clinical care and contributions to radiology.

In addition to patient care and interpreting imaging procedures, the department is deeply involved in clinical and basic research. Teaching at the undergraduate medical school level, and at the residency and fellow level is a major component of the Department’s mission. More information concerning the structure of our teaching programs, and the match for residency and fellowships is available on this site.

Postgraduate Continuing Medical Education is offered through our department in the form of week long courses held twice a year (summer and winter courses) held in varying locations. Registration for these courses and information concerning them is available on the department’s website.
