About Ultrasound Exam
Ultrasound uses a transmitting device that sends high frequency sound waves that travel outward at different speeds to produce composite images on a computer screen. Our center features:
- The Siemens Sequoia with state-of-the-art technology that provides high quality images in ultrasound and vascular procedures.
- The Unetixs PVR system to diagnose vascular disease.
Your physician has ordered an Ultrasound examination to help provide an accurate assessment of your health care needs. The preparation for each examination varies according to the type of exam. Please consult your physician for preparations you should take before your examination.
Before your Ultrasound examination
Our confirmation staff will contact you 24 to 48 hours prior to your examination to ask some very important questions to help you prepare for your examination. Some of the questions are as follows:
- Do you have a history of renal failure or are you on dialysis?
- Do you have anemia or any disease that affects your blood or seizures?
- Are you currently taking or have you taken any medication?
- Have you had any surgery or any similar invasive procedure?
Special Instructions:
For the following examinations the patient must not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before the exam –
- Abdominal Doppler Studies
- Gallbladder
- Liver and Pancreas
For pelvic examinations you must drink 32oz of water one hour before the appointment. You must arrive at the Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging Center with a full bladder.
The day of your Ultrasound examination
Please be prepared to arrive 30 minutes prior to your examination time to complete the registration process, prepare for the exam and ask the technologist questions prior to your scan.
On the day of the exam you will be asked to lie on an examination table. The sonographer will spread a warm gel over the area of interest and will then pass a transducer (a small device that looks like a wand) over the area. High frequency sound waves will cause images to appear on a TV monitor.
After your examination
You should feel perfectly normal and be able to resume your everyday activities after your MRI examination.
